Pansexual rapper Angel Haze remixes Macklemore’s “Same Love” with her own powerful lyrics, and it’s simply fantastic. This, my friends, is how this song is meant to be heard. (via GLAAD)

Glass Frog

The glass frog is a fascinating little creature. While most of the frog’s body is lime green, the abdominal skin is translucent. Most of the internal organs, including the heart, liver, and gastrointestinal tract are visible through its translucent skin. The glass frog is also very small in size, ranging from 3 to 7 cm.

Why I Love Toronto

Backyard Axe Throwing League (B.A.T.L.)

I am always looking to try something new and recently adopted the motto “what’s the worst that could happen?” Anyways my friend Ariel possibly got me the most exciting gift I could ever ask for – a night of Axe Throwing at B.A.T.L. Now last year I got into the whole post-apocalyptic genre reading The Hunger Games trilogy, The Maze Runner trilogy and the Divergent trilogy (god why is everything in a trilogy) and I realized I had no skills adequate for a post-apocalyptic society. Knowing my fear of not surviving an apocalypse, Ariel knew that this would be the perfect gift for me as it would teach me a skill that I could use when a zombie, vampire, cannibalistic or alien invasion occurs.

It just so happened that the week of my birthday there was an open house night at B.A.T.L, in which the league was looking to recruit new members to the league. Since it was an open house night the event was completely free and you could with a smaller group as opposed to their group of 12+ rule.

With our beers in hand (yes the venue is BYOB, which isn’t as dangerous as it sounds because no hard liquor is allowed), Ariel and I got ready to throw a few axes at a target. At our first try Ariel and I did not get a single axe in the wood. Not ready to give up we tried again and eventually we mastered the axe throwing technique and were able to battle actual league members. For those who want to know I lost by one point to a member and Ariel won by two! Throwing the axe in my lumberjack outfit (black skinny jeans, plaid shirt, suspenders and toque I got at Igloofest) gave me a feeling of nationalistic pride. I felt that this would be a natural skill for a Canadian Lumberjack and therefore I was truly tapping into my national heritage. I know that many of you are probably thinking that “that is such a stereotype an American would give to a Canadian,” but let me tell you how fucking Canadian I felt wearing that outfit and throwing some axes around.

There are two locations in Toronto. One on Sterling Road (The Junction), which I bike by every day and have never noticed and the one I went to on Villiers Street (Cherry Street and Lakeshore area). Now for the most part you either need to be a league member or in a group of 12+ people to attend. However, if there is only a few of you who want to go and throw an axe your best bet is to go to an open house night or watch a league game where sometimes the members will let you have a try.

However, open houses are rare and I honestly encourage you to plan a birthday party, bachelor/ bachelorette party or even a work function here, because it truly is a good time and something that cannot be missed. I mean have been subtly suggesting to my HR Manager that this should be our next teaming building exercise outing.

I think sometimes people are scared of the critique. I get it—it’s terrifying when images go online within half an hour. But passing judgment on someone else is a reflection of your own insecurities. We all make mistakes. We all have a fashion faux pas, choose the wrong script, write the wrong song. But it’s only by taking chances and occasionally getting it wrong that we grow.”
